The aim of this work is the identification of the influence of the plateaus close to the east shore of Central Patagonia (42° - 46° S) in the oceanic features of the local climate, as there is no agreement on this subject. Some authors consider that maritime influence is restrieted within a narrow coastal band, particularly southward due to the higher altitude in the plateaus. However the analysis of several maritimity-indicator parameters suggests the opposite situation: southern plateaus exhibits more pronounced oceanic climatic features. It is shown that this situation is due specialy to topographic differences, such as shape and relative height among the plateaus and among then and the low lands inmediatly to their west. Also the common strong winds in the area mix the lower boundary layers of the atmosphere
inhibiting the formation of stable thermic profiles reducing the temperature range.
