Different fields of research have contributed to the reconstruction of the first
colonisation of the American continent. Some molecular genetics studies have confronted the existence of different migrational episodes versus the single wave hypothesis. In the present study we analyse nineteen sequences of extinct aborigines from Fuego-Patagonia. In accordance to anterior results, the variability of the DNA Hypervariable Region I (HRI) of the samples analysed suggests the presence of al least two migrations among the Amerinds. On the other hand, within the Fuego-Patagonians some sequences may be detected which might correspond to the arrival of more recent Amerind lineages into the isolated Fuego-Patagonians.
