Ítem El cuaternario del Estrecho de Magallanes I: sector Punta Arenas- Primera Angostura(1992) Prieto V., Ximena; Winsolow, MargaretRecords of the last three glaciation periods are found in the study area. The glaciation before the last, deposited three and possibly six moraines at Primera Angostura in the Estrecho de Magallanes, from a glacial lobe of at least 40m height at its front and 250 a 350m in Porvenir area. Last Glaciation deposited three moraines in Segunda Angostura possibly associated to two advances. During the first (between 20 at 16 kyBP) the Seno Otway glacier coalesced with the Magallanes Strait glacier reaching at 50 to 110m height at its frontal end. The Otway glacier also deposited a bottom moraine in Brunswick Peninsula and a drumlins field formed at Cabeza de Mar area. The second advance developed a flat shape glacier with 50 to 100m in height and deposited the moraines in Peninsula Juan Mazía (15 to 13,6 KyBP) and developed the drumlins field in Gente Grande Bay. The fast deglatiation in the Pacific margin of the Magallanes Strait, for the raise of sea level, controlled the deglatiation of the Atlantic margin. At the end, the Magallanes Strait opening took place in Segunda Angostura area, possibly between 9,5 and 9 kyBP.
